Pocket Watch B module
Pocket Watch B can be purchased from Jameco (part number 145630) and Parallax (part number 27962). This component is only the size of a coin
and includes a clock chip, quartz crystal, and a serial interface for communication with input and output pins. It costs around $30 and is not suitable for ovens, but it is very suitable for use when building sample models.
Create a digital thermometer
Now that you have a preliminary understanding of Stamps and LCD displays, we can add another component to make a digital thermometer.
The production of digital thermometers requires the use of the DS1620 chip. This chip includes:
A temperature sensor
An analog-to-digital converter for temperature sensing devices
A shift register used to read data from an analog-to-digital converter
A small electrically erasable read-only memory for saving settings
DS1620 has two working modes: one as an independent constant temperature chip; Another method is to connect with a computer for use as a thermometer.
Electrically erasable read-only memory is used to store the current working mode and constant temperature mode settings.
The connection between DS1620 and Stamp is very simple. This chip has 8 pins. Connect the 5V or higher power supply from Stamp to pin 8 of DS1620;
Connect the power ground wire to pin 4 of DS1620. Three Stamp input/output pins drive the following three pins of DS1620:
Pin 1 is the data line. Read and write data through this pin.
Pin 2 is the clock pin. Provide a clock for moving data in and out of the shift register.
Pin 3 is for reset and chip selection signals. This pin is set to a high level to select the chip.
